2010 Midway Cardinals Press Release

The Midway Cardinals trailed 2-0 into their top-half of the fourth inning when the Redbirds tied up the game. With two outs in the top of the sixth, the Cardinals broke open the tight contest and erupted for six runs to lead 8-2. First baseman Alejandro "Hans" Del Valle highlighted the run with a two-run triple, while Harvey Campos and Anthony Garcia added RBI singles.

The Hometown Dodgers, which beat the Cardinals twice during their undefeated regular-season campaign, would not go down quietly. The first three batters reached base on singles before a grand slam cleared the bases. One out later, another Dodger went deep with a home run and closed the gap to one at 8-7. After a strikeout by Cardinals' pitcher Alexis Correa, the Dodgers' final batter grounded out to first unassisted to end the game and secured the Redbirds' back-to-back Pinto Division championship.

2010 Pony Press Release

After giving up 1 run to the Merrionette Park Braves in the top of the 1st inning, the Midway Cubs stormed back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st. The Cubs then scored 1 run in the 3rd inning and then broke the game open with 5 runs in the 4th inning, making the score 9 - 1.  The cubs would protect this big lead and won the game by the final of 11 -2.  DJ Devich pitched 6 strong innings and gave up 2 runs while striking out 11 batters.  On the offensive side, the Cubs were led by Justin Hernandez, who went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs.  David Garcia, DJ Devich and Martin Rangel each had 1 hit and 2 RBIs.

The 11 - 2 championship win was the culmination of a dominant 20 - 1 season for the Midway Pony Cubs.  They posted a 17 - 1 record in the regular season and a 3 - 0 record in the playoffs.  In their road to the championship, they defeated Kennedy Park Black 18 - 7 in the first round of the playoffs.  In the second round, they defeated Ridge Beverly by the score of 4 - 1.  This game was a hard fought battle in which the Cubs only had 3 hits in the entire game.  The defensive play of the game was turned in by DJ Devich in the 4th inning, when he made a perfect throw from deep left field to cut down a runner at 3rd base.  During their 3 games in the playoffs, the Cubs made only 2 errors on defense.
