MIDWAY BASEBALL RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS

The Midway Baseball Association (MBA), the youth organization that has served   the West Lawn community for 38 years, will be moving its home fields to West Lawn Park 67th & Tripp , where it was founded in 1971, for the 2009   baseball season.

For the 2010 season, Midway Baseball will return to its present home, Michael J. Madigan Field at 67th Street (Marquette Road) and Kilpatrick Avenue.

The association is excited about the temporary relocation because when it returns to Madigan Field, its facilities will have received a much-need facelift and reconstruction with three new baseball fields, two renovated fields (one equipped with lights for night games), and a new concession stand.

A new grammar school is presently being built on a portion of Madigan Field.

The project is a joint effort of the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Board of Education, the 13th Ward, and Midway Baseball.

For nearly four decades, the MBA had provided a safe haven for families of the West Lawn community in offering one of the largest baseball programs on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Nearly 700 children, from ages four through 19, participate in Midway Baseball, a member of PONY Baseball/Softball (Protect Our Nation's Youth).  In addition to the regular spring baseball season, the association fields summer All-Stars consisting of different age groups competing in various tournaments, and a fall baseball program.

Midway Baseball prides itself on providing, at Madigan Field, five baseball fields, specially designed for various age groups, equipped with infield grass, pitcher's mounds, outfield fences, and covered dugouts for the community.

The non-profit baseball association is renowned for offering its services, with a special community sponsorship program, at a cost that is affordable for all families.

Midway Baseball is planning special incentives for families who remain with the league through the transition year.

Midway Baseball

2009 Season

Welcome Back Midway Families

Registration for returning players will be November 1st & 2nd at West Lawn Park from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Minimum deposit per child is $50.

Register this weekend and receive a $10 discount per child.

2009 will be a season of change for us. We will not be playing our games at our fields. The city's schedule is for us to return to Midway with all brand new fields in 2010. All games for the 2009 season will be played at West Lawn Park. This has 2 advantages for our league. We will be able to start our weekday games at 6:00 p.m. and there will be no suspended games as West Lawn has lights. This year there will be no family obligation work and no raffle tickets to buy. At this point we are not scheduled to have a concession stand as there is no building for us to use. What this means is that the umpire costs will now be a part of the registration fee instead of being covered by the concession stand. The board has calculated what our break even point will be for the upcoming season. This has resulted in the following fees; T-Ball will be $50.00. For Pinto thru Pony, whether boys or girls, it will be $195.00 for the first child and will be $150.00 for each additional child in the family. Colt and Palomino fees will be decided at a later date.

By playing in our league this year you will be guaranteed to pay the same price for 2010.
