Shetland (T-ball) Games

T-Ball is instructional rather than competitive. There are no winners or losers. The goal is to prepare players for the next division, Pinto ages 6, 7, 8.

Field:                             50 foot bases, Batting tee is home plate.

Duration of game:       1 hour

Batting:                         All players present bat in rotation each ½ inning.

No bunting or stealing bases, one foot must remain on the base until

the ball is hit.  We suggest you give a batter enough swings to hit the

                                        ball.

After multiple attempts award the batter first base to keep the game

moving. Make sure all runners are positioned at the base facing

                                        the batter.

Defense:                       When 10 fielders are used, there shall be a short centerfielder or

four outfielders. Make sure all fielders are paying attention when a

batter is ready to swing.  Rotate fielders each game so they can learn

different positions.  You should have a player who can catch well at

first base considering he/she will be thrown the ball most often.

After a base hit runners return or proceed to the closest base, once

an infielder has possession of the ball.

Catcher:                        Catcher will stand behind the coach as batters are swinging the bat.

After the ball is hit the catcher may assume his position defensively and

accept the ball from his team to be placed on the TEE.

Coach’s position:         Coaches can instruct from the field standing behind outfielders, pitcher,

                                       and at the TEE

*After the game the coach presents a game ball to one or two of his players.

Make sure all players get a game ball before the season ends.

If you have any questions call your Shetland Commissioner.
